STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE CLEANING, OPERATION AND CALIBRATION OF CONDUCTIVITY/ TDS METER

 1.0            OBJECTIVE

To lay down the procedure for operation of Conductivity/TDS meter.

2.0              SCOPE

This SOP shall be applicable to the Conductivity/TDS meter used in QC Dept.

3.0              RESPONSIBILITY

3.1              Chemist QC and above shall be responsible for the preparation and execution of this SOP

3.2              Head QC & QA shall be responsible for the checking and approval of this SOP.

4.0              ACCOUNTABILITY

4.1        Head QC

5.0              PROCEDURE

5.1              Cleaning

5.1.1        Ensure that probe should be properly cleaned.

5.1.2      Ensure that the dry probe should be soaked for at least 5-10 minutes or longer before calibration.

5.1.3        Wipe the probe with the soft tissue paper so that there should be no scratch on the probe.

5.2              Calibration

5.2.1        Press the “MODE” key to select the conductivity mode.

5.2.2    Rinse the probe thoroughly with de-ionized water or a rinse solution, and then rinse a small amount of calibration standard.

5.2.3       Dip the probe into the calibration standard. Ensure that the probe tip should not be beyond upper steel band.

5.2.4      Press the “CAL/MEAS” to enter conductivity calibration mode. The CAL indicator will appear in the upper right corner of the display.

5.2.5       Wait for [Ready] indicator to appear before pressing “ENTER” key to confirm calibration value. The upper display will show “done” once the calibration is successfully performed. The meter runs to the [MEAS] mode.

5.2.6   To abort the calibration, press CAL/MEAS to revert back to the measurement mode. No calibration should be done at this stage.

5.2.7       To perform the next point calibration, repeat the above steps until all steps have been calibrated.

5.3              Operation

5.3.1       Rinse the probe with de-ionized or distilled water before use and after each sample and carefully removes all impurities by wiping off with the tissue paper.

5.3.2        For the removal of proper contamination, rinse the probe with the small volume of your sample.

5.3.3    Now, press “ON” to switch on the meter and the [MEAS] an indicator appears on the top of the LCD.

5.3.4      Dip the probe into the sample. Make sure that the solution level is above its upper steel band. Stir the probe gently in the sample to create the homogenous sample.

5.3.5        Note that reading on the display should be stabilized.

5.3.6        Press the “MODE” to toggle between the Conductivity and TDS measurement.
