The purpose of the document is to establish a method for determining of specific gravity of Asava/Arista.
2.0 SCOPE
This standard testing procedure is suitable for the determination of specific gravity.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
The expert and trained chemist are responsible for following this procedure. The technical manager is responsible for implementing this procedure.
4.0 REQUIREMENTS
4.1 Apparatus
4.1.1 Analytical balance
4.2 Glassware
4.2.1 Specific gravity bottle with Thermometer
4.3 Reagents: NA
5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Clean and thoroughly dry the Specific gravity bottle(pycnometer) and weigh it.
5.2 Fill it up to mark with freshly boiled and cooled distilled water & weigh (maintained at 25±2°C).
5.3 Remove the water, dry it & fill it with sample (at 200C temp.).
5.4 Adjust the temp.of the filled Specific gravity bottle(pycnometer) to 250C, remove any excess of the substance and weigh.
6.0 CALCULATION
Specific gravity at 25±2°C = (C - A ) /(B - A)
Where,
C = mass of specific gravity bottle with sample (in g)
A = mass of empty specific gravity bottle (in g)
B = mass of specific gravity bottle with water (i)
