This SOP outlines the procedure for using the dressing cabinet in the sterile area of the microbiological lab, ensuring all personnel adhere to strict contamination control standards.

 1. Objective

To provide a detailed procedure for the proper use of the dressing cabinet in the sterile area of the microbiological lab, ensuring maintenance of sterility and prevention of contamination.

 2. Responsibility

All personnel entering the sterile area, including lab technicians, microbiologists, and other relevant staff, are responsible for following this SOP.



3. Procedure

3.1. Preparation

Personal Hygiene:

Ensure hands and face are clean before entering the dressing area.

Remove all jewelry, watches, and other accessories.

Entry Protocol:

Enter the designated dressing area through the main entrance.

Log your entry time in the lab logbook.

3.2. Gowning Procedure

Gowning Materials:

Use only sterile gowns, gloves, masks, caps, and shoe covers provided in the dressing cabinet.

Dressing Steps:

Step 1: Put on a hair cover, ensuring all hair is completely enclosed.

Step 2: Put on a face mask, ensuring it covers both nose and mouth securely.

Step 3: Wear a sterile gown, ensuring it covers your body completely. Fasten all ties and snaps securely.

Step 4: Put on shoe covers, ensuring they cover your shoes completely.

Step 5: Sanitize hands using the provided hand sanitizer.

Step 6: Put on sterile gloves, ensuring they cover the cuffs of the gown.

3.3. Exit Protocol

Removal of Gowning Materials:

Remove gloves and discard them in the designated waste bin.

Remove gown carefully and discard it in the designated waste bin.

Remove shoe covers, mask, and hair cover, and discard them in the designated waste bin.

Sanitize hands after removing all gowning materials.

Logging Out:

Log your exit time in the lab logbook.

4. Cleaning and Maintenance

Daily Cleaning:

Ensure the dressing cabinet and surrounding area are cleaned and sanitized daily.

Replenish all gowning materials as needed.

Weekly Inspection:

Conduct a weekly inspection of the dressing cabinet and gowning materials for any signs of contamination or damage.

Replace any damaged or contaminated items immediately.

5. Precautions

Sterility:

Always use sterile gowning materials.

Ensure hands are sanitized before and after gowning.

Contamination Control:

Do not touch any surfaces after gowning to avoid contamination.

Report any breaches in sterility immediately to the lab supervisor.
