STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR SCRAP AND WASTE MANAGEMENT

1.0 PURPOSE

2.1 To lay down the procedure for collection, transfer and disposal of waste generated from various Departments at Manufacturing Unit.

3.0 SCOPE

3.1 This procedure is applicable for the collection and transfer of waste generated at Manufacturing Unit.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY

4.1 HR Officer and above shall be responsible for preparation & execution of this SOP.

4.2 Head HR shall be responsible for the review of this SOP.

4.3 Head-HR along with the Section Heads shall be responsible to ensure the compliance of the procedure and implementation of this SOP.

8.0 PROCEDURE

8.1 The waste generated in the various departments shall be properly disposed.

8.2 All wastes shall be collected in a designated place/area of waste collection in respective Department/section. Waste materials includes the following but not limited

8.2.1 Store: corrugated boxes, jute bags, Gunny bags, Fiber drums. HDPE drums, Gloves, Nose mask, Caps, Shoe covers, Polyethylene bags etc.

8.2.2 Production: LDPE bags, Gunny bags, HDPE drums, Gloves, Nose mask, Caps, Shoe covers, Stationary items, packing material, aluminum blisters and foil , jute bags . Non recoverable residue, Sieves & Screens, lint free clothes, Plastic wares, Tools, used shrink film, General waste generated in production etc.

8.2.3 Quality Control: Leftover samples, Expired chemicals and Reagents, PP woven bags, Glass wares, Plastic wares, stationary, Packing materials, Gloves, Nose mask, Caps etc.

8.2.4 Quality Assurance: stationary, control samples, market samples etc.
8.2.5 Engineering: Iron pieces, wooden planks, brick, sand, wires etc.

8.2.6 Other Departments: Stationary and miscellaneous waste item

8.3 Respective department shall send the generated waste to the scrap yard.

8.4 Department personnel, before transfer shall examine the Waste items to remove any objectionable item.

8.5 Check and ensure the following.

8.5.1 All the labels of container are defaced

8.5.2 Absence of any usable material and product in the scrap item

8.5.3 Vacuum cleaning of used LDPE bags with direct material contact

8.5.4 All the Waste items shall be collected twice in a day or as and when required

8.6 At Scrap yard, all the Waste items shall be segregated by Scrap yard workman as per the nature of the. Like mix-waste, Aluminum foil, poly bags, blister and PVC foil, corrugated boxes and other engineering items.

8.7 Disposal of Waste

8.7.1 Empty Containers (Plastic/ Fiber Board/Reagent Bottles)

8.7.1.1 Cross mark the empty containers by marker pen marked as ‘X’ and deface the label and Transfer the containers to scrap yard after cleaning or de-dusting

8.7.2 Plastic scrap/broken Glassware/Rubber scrap/hand gloves & snap-off caps

8.7.2.1 Collect the scrap in LDPE bags and transfer to scrap yard

8.7.3 Rejected Empty Strips/Blister/Aluminum Foil

8.7.3.1 Collect the empty strips / blisters in LDPE bag after de-foiling.

8.7.3.2 Recheck the strips / blisters before sending to scrap yard.

8.7.3.3 Strips/Blister/Aluminum foil shall be shredded before transfer to the scrap yard.

8.7.4 Corrugated Box/Stationary/Packing material

8.7.4.1 Shred the rejected packing materials, stationary items and packing material waste and collect in a LDPE bags. Deface the labels of corrugated boxes and transfer the waste to scrap yard.

8.7.5 Rejected Sieves and Screens

8.7.5.1 Cut the rejected sieves and screens from middle, make a roll and transfer the scrap to scrap yard.

8.7.6 Expired Chemicals/Reagents

8.7.6.1 Scrap containing expired chemicals / reagents shall be diluted in water and to be drained out in ETP.

8.7.6.2 If specific treatment is required for destruction of any Chemicals/Reagents, destruction shall be carried out as per MSDS.

8.7.7 Glass Bottles, Plastic Caps

8.7.7.1 Rejected / unused glass bottles shall be transferred to scrap yard.

8.7.7.2 Rejected plastic Caps shall be mutilated and transferred to scrap yard.

8.7.8 Die-Punch Destruction

8.7.8.1 Non-usable dies / punches have to be isolated and labeled as not in use.

8.7.8.2 Transfer the damaged punches to Engineering Department and grind the punch tip.

8.7.8.3 Transfer defaced tooling to scrap yard.

8.7.9 General Waste generated in the plant

8.7.9.1 General waste of plant like old slippers, disposable mask, gloves , shoe covers, torn booties, waste of lint free cloth etc. shall be collected in LDPE bags and transfer to the scrap yard.

8.7.9.2 All the electronic waste shall be destroyed by IT person to break the CD/chip/and other possible part of the material and transfer to scrap yard.

8.7.9.3 When scrap yard rooms are full of truckload, scrap Vendor shall be informed to empty out the Scrap yard.

8.7.9.4 Security Officer shall check the scraps before loading in truck.

8.7.9.5 The HR & Administration Head / designee shall ensure the weighing of all scrap items and fill up Format.

8.7.9.6 Entire solid, semisolid & liquid waste can also be disposed of by handing over to government approved contract agency for incineration or dumping.
