To lay down the procedure for cleaning, operation & calibration of the weighing balance.
2.0 SCOPE
This SOP shall be applicable for cleaning, operation & calibration of weighing balance
in Microbiology Lab.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Microbiologists and above shall be responsible for the preparation and execution of
this SOP
3.2 QC & QA Head shall be responsible for the checking and approval of this SOP.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Cleaning
5.1.1 Ensure that the power supply to the weighing balance is switched ‘OFF’ before cleaning
and remove the plug from the socket.
5.1.2 Weighing balance shall be kept on a clean & vibration-free table/platform.
5.1.3 Platform of the weighing balance shall be wiped with a dry lint-free cloth on a daily basis so that there will be no dust particles on the weighing balance.
5.2 Operation
5.2.1 Ensure the cleanliness of the instrument.
5.2.2 Ensure for the level of weighing balance, the air bubble shall be positioned in the center.
5.2.3 Ensure that” the power supply switch is “ON “On/Off” key shall be the press of weighing balance.
5.2.4 Ensure the opening of the sliding glass door.
5.2.5 A container of butter paper shall be placed on the weighing pan.
5.2.6 Ensure for the pressing →O/T← key, the display shall be changed to zero.
5.2.7 The desired material to be weighed shall be put in the container with a clean spatula/spoon up to the desired target weight.
5.2.8 Ensure for the weighing is complete, the container shall be removed from the weighing pan and switch off the weighing balance.
5.2.9 The platform shall be clean after weighing.
5.2.11. All weighing shall be recorded in the daily usage log book.
5.3 Calibration of the Instrument
5.3.1 Weighing balance shall be calibrated daily with standard weights of 1g,2g, and 3g individual temperature values.
5.3.2 External calibration is done for the Instrument once in 12 months.
