STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR CLEANING AND SANITATION OF MICROBIOLOGY LAB


1.0              OBJECTIVE

To lay down the procedure for cleaning and sanitation of microbiology lab.

2.0              SCOPE

This SOP shall be applicable for cleaning and sanitation of microbiology lab in Microbiology Laboratory.

3.0              RESPONSIBILITY

3.1              Microbiologist and above shall be responsible for the preparation and execution of this SOP

3.2              QC & QA Head shall be responsible for the checking and approval of this SOP.

5.0              PROCEDURE



5.1              Daily cleaning procedure:

5.1.1        All the floor areas shall be wipe & clean with a clean cloth soaked in water containing disinfectant solution.

5.1.2        All benches, shelves, tops of the platform, refrigerator and Incubator shall be wiped with a clean cloth soaked in water containing disinfectant solution.

5.1.3        Rotation of the sanitation solution: At least two sanitation solutions shall be rotated per month (it is possible to rotate a maximum of 3 solutions)

 

5.1.4        DISINFECTANT SOLUTIONS

(a) Siliviside solution

(b) Gramicid solution

(c) Microlyse solution

5.2              Weekly cleaning procedure:

5.2.1        The interior portion of the Incubators shall be wiped with a clean cloth soaked in 70 % IPA.

5.2.2        Glass, doors, and windows frames shall be clean & wipe with colin solution or 70 % IPA.

5.2.3        Ceiling shall be dedust with a dry cloth and wipe with 70 % IPA.

5.3              Monthly cleaning procedure:

5.3.1        Drawer under the working table, switches, furniture, and so on. shall be clean once a month with a dry cotton cloth.

5.4              Precautions

5.4.1        The personnel in charge of the cleaning and sanitation shall be use gloves and dress.

5.4.2        Ensure to strictly follow the instructions in the handling of each cleaning solution subject to their functional characteristics.

5.4.3        The whole process of cleaning and sanitation shall be carried out with purified water.

5.4.4        Skin Contact shall be avoided with the sanitation solutions as they are irritating in nature.
