STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR DEEP FREEZER

1.0 PURPOSE

To design the standard operating procedure for the

operation of the Deep Freezer.

2.0 SCOPE

2.1 This SOP shall be applicable for the operation of the Deep Freezer.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

3.1 All the users including the Scientist(s) and Research associate(s) of the invitro department are responsible for the implementation of this SOP and maintaining the Deep Freezer.

4.0 DISTRIBUTION

4.1 The Quality Assurance department is responsible to keep SOP ‘Master Copy’ approved through Quality Manager.

4.2 The copy of the ‘Control Copy’ of this SOP is being distributed in the In-vitro department and placed near related Equipment/Instruments as a ‘Display Copy’.

5.0 ABBREVIATIONS and DEFINITIONS

5.1 Abbreviations

5.1.1 SOP: Standard Operating Procedure

5.1.2 °C : degree centigrade

5.2 Definitions

Deep freezers are testing equipment that is used to preserve critical samples and reagents for a long period of time.

6.0 PROCEDURE

6.1 Operation

6.1.1 Connect the power plug to the main power sockets and switch on the power supply.

6.1.2 Set the temperature up to -80°C.

6.1.3 Sample should be stored in a labeled cryo box.

6.1.4 Monitor the temperature once a day in the format.

Limit: Deep freezer: 3°C ± 2°C

6.2 Maintenance

6.2.1 A weekly inspection of the deep freezer will be performed by the supervisor. Any mislabeled containers will be brought to the attention of the appropriate group member.

7.0 PRECAUTIONS

7.1 Proper Labeling of Stored Chemicals.

7.2 Store carcinogens, suspected carcinogens, and stench compounds in a secondary container. A jar with a lid is most appropriate for stench compounds, while either a bucket or jar is ok for carcinogens. This requirement for secondary containers for stench compounds is ABSOLUTELY SERIOUS.

7.3 Contact the supervisor after all spills.

7.4 Development of Frost in the Freezer- Leaving the door open for extended periods of time promotes the development of frost in the freezer sections. Deep Freeze doors should be closed as soon as possible, especially in the summer, to prevent frosting.

8.0 REFERENCE(S) AND FORMAT(S)

8.1 Reference

8.1.1 User manual.

8.2 Format

8.2.1 Format I- Document History sheet.

8.2.1 Format II- Format for Log Book.

9. REVISION HISTORY

9.1 Maintain the history of SOP
