STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE LOVIBOND TINTOMETER

1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to carry out the operation of the Lovibond Tintometer.

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure is applicable to the Lovibond Tintometer Instrument. 

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

 


Chemists/analysts are responsible for following this procedure. The section In-charge/QA/QC/Quality Manager is responsible for implementing this procedure.

5.0 PROCEDURE

5.1 Operation

5.1.1 Switch On the mains supply.

5.1.2 Switch On the bulb of the instrument

5.1.3 Take clean optical glass cells, which have specific sizes to be used (i.e 1’ and ¼” for oil sample)

5.1.4 Pour the sample and place it on the sample chamber liner in the comparator.

5.1.5 Compared with a series of colored glass discs until the nearest possible match is found.

5.1.6 Match color using a color scale which is:

-Red (0.1 - 0.9, 1.0 - 9.0, 10.0 - 70),

-Yellow (0.1 - 0.9, 1.0 - 9.0, 10.0 - 70),

-Blue (0.1 - 0.9, 1.0 - 9.0, 10.0 -40),

-Neutral (0.1 - 0.9, 1.0 - 3.0)

5.1.7 Note the color scale

5.1.8 Wipe the glass cell with tissue paper.

5.1.9 Switch Off the bulb of the instrument

5.1.10 Switch Off the mains supply.
