1.0 OBJECTIVE
1.1 To lay down a standard procedure to be followed for acclimatization of laboratory animals.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) shall be applicable for the procedure for acclimatization of laboratory animals in Animal House Facility.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Study Director / In-charge - Animal House Facility
3.2 All personnel involved in the procedure for acclimatization of laboratory animals.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Definition
5.1.1 Acclimatization: Adaptation of animals to new housing conditions like noises, smell, temperature, humidity, light cycle, etc. and restraining in the experimental room before the conduct of the experiment.
5.2 Acclimatization Procedure
5.2.1 For a particular study, all the animals shall be
acclimatized for a minimum period of not less than five days and as per the
study plan before the conduct of any experimental procedure.
5.2.2 Not more than 5 rats shall be housed in a cage during
acclimatization period.
5.2.3 Not more than 8 mice shall be housed in a cage during
acclimatization period.
5.2.4 Not more than 4 rabbits / or as per study plan shall be
housed in a cage during the acclimatization procedure.
5.2.5 Cages housing animals under acclimatization period
shall be highlighted with respective study numbers on the cage cards.
5.2.6 Feed and water shall be provided ad libitum to the animals (or as per study requirements).
5.2.7 During the acclimatization period, all animals shall be
monitored at least once daily for the clinical signs.
5.2.8 For specific study-related procedures, animals shall be
acclimatized to the requisite conditions as per study plan/guidelines/
protocol / references etc.
5.2.9 Bodyweight of the animals shall be recorded on the day
of the animal’s receipt and/or on the day of randomization.
