1.0 OBJECTIVE
1.1 To lay down the standard procedure to be followed for decontamination of animal house area/s by fumigation in Animal House Facility.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This SOP shall be applicable for decontamination of animal house area/s by fumigation.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 High-level disinfection of animal housing shall be achieved by fumigating the area using 30% hydrogen peroxide solution in water or potassium permanganate Formalin mixer (Adding 35 mL of formalin to 10 g potassium permanganate or Hydrogen Peroxide- 10% solution.
5.2 Cleaning of the floor, walls, ceilings, glass panes, tables, stools, and doors shall be done as per the method mentioned in SOP no. …………..
5.3 All animals shall be shifted to a safe controlled temperature, humidity area.
5.4 Personnel involved in fumigation procedure shall wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
5.5 Measure the area to be fogged to determine the cubic volume of space to be decontaminated (length x width x height in feet).
5.6 Turn off AC of the area to be decontaminated and cover any equipment, thermostats, or electrical outlets that should not be exposed during the fumigation procedure.
5.7 Prepare the fumigation solution and spray the solution with a ULV fogger. Use the fogger as per respective SOP No………….
5.8 Calculated Area of all rooms has been calculated and mentioned in the format No. F........
5.9 Allow the room closed for at least 30 min after fumigation and de-fumigate for 2 hrs before use of the respective room. Turn on the AC and allow the air to exhaust from fumigated rooms before use.
5.10 Wipe covered surfaces, such as stainless steel counters, shelves, sinks, etc., with disinfectant moist cloth.
5.11 Dispose of any remaining fumigating solution by pouring slowly down a drain while running cold tap water into the drain. Be sure to wear protective wear when doing so.
5.12 Fumigation shall be performed once in every 15 days / or before initiation of an experiment or as and when required as per the Study Plan.
5.13 Records for fumigation shall be maintained in Format No. F……………...
