To lay down a standard procedure to be followed for transportation of biological samples i.e.
Blood / Plasma / Serum / tissue / organs etc. from Animal House Facility
to an outside laboratory for analysis.

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) shall be
applicable for transportation of biological samples i.e.
Blood / Plasma / Serum / tissue / organs etc. from animal house facility to
outside laboratory for analysis
in Animal House Facility.

PROCEDURE
5.1 Functions of Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC)
5.1.1 Biological samples shall be collected in neatly labeled vials / containers as per method mentioned in Study Plan (SP). After collection all samples shall be stored at recommended storage conditions.
5.1.2 For tissue samples to be sent for histopathological analysis appropriate size tissue storage containers shall be used. Tissue fixation shall be done in a suitable fixative solution as per the recommended method.
5.1.3 Labeled containers/vials shall be checked for leakage of biological sample/fixative the solution before packing.
5.1.4 Care shall be taken for labeling of containers/vials to prevent removal of labeling by solvent/fixative.
5.1.5 Labeled vials / containers shall be packed in thermocol box with dry ice packs to maintain the recommended storage conditions during transportation.
5.1.6 Only authorized the person shall be allowed to carry the biological samples to an outside laboratory.
5.1.7 Environmental conditions shall be maintained within recommended range.
5.1.8 Samples shall be handed over to authorized person and receipt of receiving shall be taken.
