SOP FOR VACCUM OVEN | STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE CLEANING, OPERATION & CALIBRATION OF VACCUM OVEN


1.0              OBJECTIVE

 To lay down the procedure for cleaning, operation & calibration of hot air oven.

2.0              SCOPE

 This SOP shall be applicable for cleaning, operation & calibration of Vaccum oven in  Chemistry Lab.

3.0              RESPONSIBILITY

3.1              Chemist and above shall be responsible for the preparation and execution of this SOP

3.2              QC & QA Head shall be responsible for the checking and approval of this SOP.

5.0              PROCEDURE

5.1              Cleaning

5.1.1     Ensure that the power supply to the Vaccum oven is switched ‘OFF’ before cleaning and plug shall be removed from the socket.

5.1.2      All surfaces, walls, top, bottom, and trays of the Vaccum oven shall be wiped with a dry lint of the free cloth on a daily basis so that there will be no dust particles in the Vaccum oven.

5.1.3    All the parts and outer surface of the Vaccum oven shall be wiped with wet lint a free cloth soaked in purified water, on weekly basis.

5.2              Operation

5.1.4        Ensure that the instrument shall be connect to the main and switch “ON”.

5.1.5        Ensure that the Toggle switch of the instrument shall be “ON”.

5.1.6        Ensure that the bulb (red) “LINE INDICATOR” shall be glows.

5.1.7        Ensure that the “THERMOSTAT” knob shall be set at specified temperature.

5.1.8        Ensure that bulb (green) “THERMOSTAT INDICATOR” shall be set to stop glowing when the specified temperature is attained.

5.1.9        Ensure for the electronic temperature controller displays the chamber temperature.

5.1.10     Five knobs shall be unscrewed to open the door.

5.1.11     The sample shall be keep on the tray inside the oven.

5.1.12    After that the door shall be close and ensure the tightening of the knobs.

5.1.13    Ensure that the vacuum pump shall be connected to the vacuum nozzle (on top panel ) of the oven.

5.1.14    The vacuum releasing knob shall be open (on top panel) of the oven to apply the vacuum.

5.1.15  The vacuum releasing knob shall be close as soon as the vaccum gauge reads the specified vacuum.

5.1.16     The sample shall be dry under vacuum at specified temperature for specified time.

5.1.17   Ensure for the vacuum gauge reads zero and the vacuum releasing knob shall be open after completing the  drying

5.1.18      After completing dry the five knobs shall be unscrewed to open the door.

5.1.19     The sample shall be take out from the oven

5.1.20     Ensure for the cycle is over and oven shall be switch “OFF” the main and the power supply.

5.1.21    Calibration of the instrument:

Calibration of Vaccum oven shall be done by the external party on annual frequency.
