SOP FOR FIRST-AID AND TREATMENT OF ANIMAL INFLICTED BITES / SCRATCHES AND MECHANICAL WOUNDS

 1.0                            OBJECTIVE

1.1                            To lay down a standard procedure to be followed for first-aid and treatment of animal inflicted bites/ scratches and mechanical wounds in Animal House Facility.

2.0                            SCOPE

2.1                            This SOP shall be applicable for first-aid and treatment of animal inflicted bites/ scratches and mechanical wounds in the Animal House Facility.

3.0                            RESPONSIBILITY

3.1                            Head- Animal House Facility

3.2                            Attendant- Animal House Facility

4.0                            DEFINITIONS

5.0                            PROCEDURE

5.1                            For minor bites, scratches, cuts, lacerations, or scrapes, the affected area shall be washed with anti-bacterial soap and water.

5.2                            Thin layer of antiseptic ointment shall be applied over the affected area and shall be cover with a band-aid.

5.3                            For critical injuries, the general physician shall be called for medical treatment.
