SOP FOR DISPOSAL OF MICROBIOLOGY WASTE | STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR DISPOSAL OF MICROBIOLOGY WASTE

 1.0              OBJECTIVE

 To lay down the procedure for Disposal of Microbiology Waste.

2.0              SCOPE

 This SOP shall be applicable for disposal of Microbiology Waste in Microbiology Lab.

3.0              RESPONSIBILITY

3.1              Microbiologist shall be responsible for the preparation and execution of this SOP

3.2              Manager QC and Manager QA shall be responsible for the checking and approval of this SOP.

5.0              PROCEDURE



5.1              Prepare 5.0 % (v/v) Dettol/teepol solution as per requirement.

5.2         After completion of the test, glasswares containing used culture media shall be autoclaved at 121° C, 15lbs pressure for 30 minutes.

5.3      Media shall be remove from the plate with the help of a spatula, and dip it in Dettol/teepol solution in a bucket for 1 hour.

5.4            The autoclaved media, microbial culture shall be discarded in the incineration pit.

5.5     Ensure the sufficient quantity of 5% Dettol/teepol solution in another bucket and all Petri- dishes/glassware shall be dipped in it for overnight.

5.6           All the empty Petri dishes/glasswares shall be removed from the 5.0 % Dettol/teepol solution and thoroughly rinse with tap water followed by purified water and dry it in an oven at 180° C for 30 minutes.

5.7              Bucket shall be a wash again and clean with using 2 % Teepol solution with water.

5.8              Validation process for autoclaving of used media:

5.8.1        Validation of autoclaving process shall be done at least once a month for used media.

5.8.2        Validation process shall be done as per Annexure I.
