1.0 OBJECTIVE
To lay down the procedure for operation of Bursting Strength Tester apparatus
2.0 SCOPE
This SOP shall be applicable to Bursting Strength Tester apparatus used in QC Dept.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Chemist QC and above shall be responsible for the preparation and execution of this SOP
3.2 Sr. Chemist QC & above and QA Head shall be responsible for the checking and approval of this SOP.
3.3 HOD shall be responsible for the authorization of this SOP.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Cleaning
5.1.1 Ensure that power supply to the Bursting Strength Tester apparatus is switched ‘OFF’ before cleaning and plug shall be remove from the socket.
5.1.2 Bursting Strength Tester apparatus shall be kept on a clean table/platform.
5.1.3 Platform of Bursting Strength Tester apparatus shall be wipe with dry lint free cloth on daily basis so that there will be no dust particles on the Bursting Strength Tester apparatus
5.2 Operation
5.2.1 Ensure that the power supply switch is “ON” of Bursting Strength Tester apparatus.
5.2.2 Ensure that the clamp the specimen into position.
5.2.3 Ensure that the check that both pointers are zeroed.
5.2.4 Ensure that the Specimen set in the clamp.
5.2.5 Ensure that apply the hydrostatic pressure as specified until the specimen ruptures.
5.2.6 The pointer of the pressure gauge stops at the maximum pressure.
5.2.7 Ensure that the read and note the position of the printer.
5.2.8 Ensure that the watch carefully for any movement of unclamped margin of the specimen.
5.2.9 Ensure that the turn the pointer smoothly back to zero, reduce the clamping pressure.
5.2.10 Ensure that the remove the specimen or forward material for new measurements
5.2.11 Ensure that the instrument Toggle switch shall be “OFF”.
5.2.12 Ensure that the mains Switch shall be “OFF”.
5.2.13 Calibration Procedure
Calibration of Bursting Strength Tester apparatus shall be done by external party on annual frequency.
