1.0 PURPOSE
1.1 To define the procedure for the Operation, Cleaning, and Calibration of the Sonicator.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This standard operating procedure provides the procedure for the Operation, Cleaning, and Calibration of the Sonicator in the quality control department.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Quality Control Person shall be responsible for :
3.1.1 To initiate and preparation of standard operating procedures.
3.1.2 Training and Monitoring of standard operating procedure.
3.1.3 Final report preparation of Operation, Cleaning, and Calibration of Sonicator.
3.2 Quality Control Head shall be responsible for :
3.2.1 To confirm the content, correctness, and detailing of standard operating procedure.
3.2.2 To ensure the training of this standard operating procedure to all concerned department persons.
3.2.3 To ensure the implementation of the standard operating procedure after training.
3.2.4 It is the final responsibility of the Quality Control Head to maintain the Operation, Cleaning, and Calibration of the Sonicator.
3.3 Quality Assurance Person shall be responsible for :
3.3.1 To check the standard operating procedure.
3.4 QA Head shall be responsible for :
3.4.1 To approve new or revised standard operating procedures.
3.4.2 To ensure the implementation of the defined system.

6.1 Operation:

6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Operation:
6.1.1 This operation is applicable for the instrument mentioned below:
6.1.2 Name of Instrument- Sonicator
6.1.3 Instrument ID – ................
6.1.4 Make – Antech

6.1.6 Ensure that the instrument is clean.
6.1.7 Check the water level.
6.1.8 Place the volumetric flask or beaker containing the sample in the suitable solvent into the Ultrasonic Bath. In case a smaller volumetric flask or beaker is to be placed, use a Wire mesh basket provided along with the Sonicator.
6.1.9 Connect the power plug and Switch ‘ON’.
6.1.10 Set the timer by pressing up and down keys.
6.1.11 Set the required time cycle in minutes by pressing up or down switches.
6.1.12 Up switch will increase the time of the cycle.
6.1.13 Press the ‘ON/OFF' button. The display should indicate the time.
6.1.14 For temperature press the On/Off switches for the heater.
6.1.15 When the display reaches the set time, the equipment will shut – off automatically.
6.1.16 Repeat the procedure to change the time of the cycle.
6.1.17 Once the sample gets dissolved remove the volumetric flask or beaker from the bath.
6.1.18 Switch off the system after use and cover the ultrasonic bath with the lid.
6.1.19 Environment, Health, And Safety :
6.1.19.1 All electric connections must be well insulated to avoid chances of getting electric shocks.
6.1.19.2 Keep the water level up to the recommended mark.
6.2 Cleaning of Instrument :
6.2.1 Drain out the water and clean the instrument with a clean cloth from inside and outside.
6.2.2 Fill the ultrasonic bath with purified water up to about two-thirds the depth of the ultrasonic bath.
6.3 Calibration of Instrument :
6.3.1 The Sonicator shall be calibrated for the following parameters :
6.3.2 Calibration Frequency: Yearly
6.3.3 Calibration to be done by outside calibration Sonicator having certification of NABL.
6.3.4 Check the Calibration Certificate with the traceable certificates.
6.3.5 Report any discrepancy observed during calibration of the instrument to the Head QC or his authorized representative. Affix the ‘Under Maintenance’ label on the instrument.
