To design the process of operation of the Incubator Shaker.
2.0 SCOPE
This Standard Operating Procedure is applicable for the maintenance, operation, and calibration of the Incubator Shaker.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 All personnel in the department shall be responsible for implementation and compliance to the SOP.
3.2 Head of the department shall be responsible to confirm the implementation and compliance to this SOP.
4.0 DISTRIBUTION
4.1 The QAD is responsible to keep SOP approved through the proper channels.
4.2 The copy of the ‘Control Copy’ of SOPs is being issued in the department and placed near related Equipment/Instruments as a Display copy.
5.0 DEFINITION (S) & ABBREVIATIONS
6.1 Definition
6.1.1 Incubator Shaker: Incubator shaker has a circular shaking motion with a slow speed (25-500 rpm). It is suitable for culturing microbes, general mingling, and washing the blots. Some of its features are that it does not produce vibrations, and it creates low heat competed to other sorts of shakers, which makes it ideal for culturing microbes. Moreover, it can be modified by placing it in an incubator to create an incubator shaker due to its low temperature and vibrations.
6.2 Abbreviations
6.2.1 SOP: Standard Operating Procedure
6.2.3 rpm: Rotations per minute
6.2.4 ºC: Degree centigrade
6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Introduction
Incubator Shaker is a piece of laboratory equipment designed to mix elements by horizontal plane rotary motion at different fixed temperatures.
6.2 Instrument description
6.2.1 Display Information
A LCD display located on the top of the instrument. It has functions of ON button, and Temperature and Speed control from where temperature and speed can be adjusted.
7.3 Operations
7.3.1 Loading the Shaker
7.3.1.1 Put your sample material in an appropriate container with a lid
7.3.1. 2 Gently press the container in one of the spring housings until it is firmly in place.
7.3.2 Shaker Operation
7.3.2.1 Close the top of the incubator and turn on the machine using the power switch to the right hand side. The LED display will for a moment show the model number.
7.3.2.2 Once the machine is switched on, the incubator may start running. Pressing the start/stop button will make the shaking to stop.
7.3.2.3 Press the select button until the RPM marker is enlightened on the left hand side of the control board.
7.3.2.4. Use the arrow keys to set the RPM of the shaker. A value from 50 to 400 RPM is available. The number will fixed when no buttons are pushed.
7.3.2.5 Press the select key until the ºC INDICATOR illuminates.
7.3.2.6. Set the temperature using the arrow keys. Temperature range is from 4º to 60ºC
7.3.2.7. Press the select key until the HRS INDICATOR is illuminated.
7.3.2.8. Utilize the bolt keys to change the TIME of the shaker. This can be a worth from 0.1 to 99.9. The number will set when no buttons are squeezed. On the off chance that a nonstop run time is wanted, just press the beginning stop button.
7.3.2.9. Press the START/STOP key. The shaker will start in untimed mode.
7.3.2.10. Press the START/STOP key again. The shaker will stop and the screen of the display will read OFF.
7.3.2.11. Press the START/STOP key a three times; the time indicator will light and the shaker will now start the timed run.
7.3.2.12. The machine will come to a stop once the set time run has ended. If running in unknown mode, the START/STOP key can be pressed at any desired time.
7.3.3 Machine Shutdown
7.3.3.1. Make sure the machine has come to a complete stop and open the lid.
7.3.3.2. Remove any samples you need. Use a hot glove if high temperatures were set.
7.3.3.3. Turn off the power by flipping the switch on the right side of the machine.
7.4 Maintenance
7.4.1 Always disconnect power during maintenance.
7.4.2 Clean the chamber from inside and outside after use.
7.4.3 Leaks are possible if the machine is not loaded in a symmetric arrangement.
7.4.4 Reference the instruction manual for proper loading techniques.
7.4.5 For cleaning the lid, do not use the cleaners, which could damage the surface. Do not use: acetone, benzene, paint thinner, carbon tetrachloride or other aggressive liquids, because they can damage the surface of acrylic lid. Do not use detergents containing ketones, esters and aromatics.
8.0 PRECAUTION
8.1This machine operates under high speed. The lid should remain closed while in operation. If the lid suddenly opens, wait for the rotation of the machine to stop.
8.2 Safety glasses and closed toe shoes are required.
8.3 Leaks should be cleaned immediately.
