STP FOR THE DETERMINATION OF WATER SOLUBLE EXTRACTIVE VALUE

1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of the document is to establish a general and uniform method for water-soluble extractive value.

2.0 SCOPE

This standard testing procedure is suitable for the determination of water-soluble extractive value.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

The expert and trained chemist are responsible for following this procedure. The technical manager is responsible for implementing this procedure.

4.0 REQUIREMENTS

4.1 Apparatus

4.1.1 Analytical balance

4.1.2 Shaker

4.1.3 Water bath

4.1.4 Hot Air Oven

4.2 Glassware

4.2.1 Volumetric Flask

4.2.2 Petri-dish

4.2.3 Funnel

4.2.4 Measuring cylinder

4.3 Reagent

4.3.1 Water & chloroform to make chloroform water.

(2.5 ml chloroform in purified water to produce 1000 ml).

5.0 PROCEDURE

5.1 Weigh 2.0g to 5.0 g of sample in the stoppered volumetric flask.

5.2 Add 100 ml of water to it.

5.3 Shake it for 8 hours continuously on the shaker.

5.4 Keep it still for 16 hours.

5.5 Filter it with Whatman filter paper (No.-1) in a previously dried dish.

5.6 Take 25 ml of solvent into a previously dried and weighed petri dish at 105°C for 30 min.

5.7 Now evaporate the solvent by keeping the Petri dish in the water bath.

5.8 Keep the petri-dish in the oven for drying at 105°C for 1 hr.

5.9 Remove the dish from the oven and place it in the desiccator for cooling.

5.10 Note down the dry weight of the petri-dish.

6.0 CALCULATION

                                     (W2-W1)/W   X100 X   100/25

                Where,

W2=Weight of dish+ sample weight (after drying), in g

W1=Weight of the empty dish, in g

W =Weight of air-dried sample in g

  1. The procedure for determining the water soluble extractive value involves weighing a sample, boiling it in water, filtering, and evaporating the filtrate to obtain the extractive value. Boiling water does not will boiling water kill bed bugs as they are resilient pests that require specific treatment methods.
