The purpose of the standard is intended to provide control on the careful handling & usage of hazardous chemicals to avoid any accidents.
2. SCOPE
This procedure is applicable to dry and wet chemistry labs, major and minor instrument labs which are
hazardous and dangerous while using and storing.
3. RESPONSIBILITY
The technical manager & Quality Manager is responsible for implementing this procedure.
4. PROCEDURE
The chemicals which are labeled as per the following category & symbol are considered to be hazardous:

4.1 All chemists should be aware of hazardous signage.
4.2 Always follow the Safety Signs and Material Safety Data Sheet while handling hazardous chemicals
for detailed information.
4.3 Use hand gloves, safety goggles, and respirators while handling hazardous chemicals.
4.4 Transfer of hazardous chemicals or solution preparation should be done in the fuming hood only.
4.5 Keep away from the chemical container, while pouring out or siphoning the chemicals.
4.6 Use a suction bulb or vacuum bulb during pipetting of hazardous chemicals.
4.7 Proper method of preparation should be followed as per the nature of the chemicals.
4.8 Store inflammable liquids and substances away from naked flames or electric sparks.
4.9 In case of spillage, clean the desk immediately.
4.10 Preserve the chemicals in the respective storage cabinets.
4.11 In case of poisonous chemicals, maintain a record of the stock and usage.
4.12 Use of bulk chemical containers should be avoided for routine analysis.
4.13 Always follow the Safety Signs on the reagent bottles and take adequate precautions while handling them.
