1.0 PURPOSE

To establish a standardized procedure for room labeling in the Laboratory Animal Facility (LAF) to ensure proper identification, organization, and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

2.0 SCOPE

This SOP applies to all designated rooms within the Laboratory Animal Facility, including animal housing, procedure rooms, and support areas.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Facility Manager ensures that all rooms are properly labeled and maintained.
  • The Animal Care Staff adheres to room labeling regulations.
  • The Quality Assurance (QA) Team verifies compliance with labeling requirements.

4.0 PROCEDURE

4.1 General Labeling Requirements

  • Labels must be clear, readable, and durable.
  • Each room must have a unique identifier (e.g., AH-101, PR-201).
  • Labels should include the room function and relevant safety information.
  • Color-coded labels may be used to distinguish different functional areas.
  • Signs should comply with institutional and regulatory standards (e.g., CPCSEA, AAALAC, GLP).



4.2 Room Labeling Format

Each label should include:

  1. Room Number (e.g., AH-101)
  2. Room Name (e.g., Rodent Housing Room)
  3. Biosafety Level (if applicable) (e.g., BSL-2)
  4. Access Restrictions (if required) (e.g., “Authorized Personnel Only”)

  • Regular inspections must be conducted to ensure labels remain visible and intact.
