1.0 OBJECTIVE
To lay down the procedure for operation of Muffle furnace
digital.
2.0 SCOPE
This SOP shall be applicable to Muffle furnace digital used
in QC Dept.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Chemist QC and above
shall be responsible for the preparation and execution of this SOP.
3.2 Sr. Chemist QC & above
and QA Head shall be responsible for the checking and approval of this
SOP.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Cleaning
5.1.1 Ensure that the power supply to the Muffle Furnace Digital is switched ‘OFF’ before
cleaning and plug shall be removed from the socket.
5.1.2
Muffle Furnace Digital shall be kept on a clean table/platform.
5.1.3
Platform of Muffle Furnace Digital shall be wiped with a dry lint the free cloth on a daily basis so that there will be no dust particles on the Muffle
Furnace Digital.
5.2
Operation
5.2.1
Ensure that temperature setting knobs-“TEMP.SET” and “FINE CONTROL”
shall be at a normal position.
5.2.2
Ensure that the instrument shall be connected to the mains and
switch “ON”.
5.2.3
Ensure that the Toggle switch is “ON” (on the front panel).
5.2.4
Ensure that the line indicator –“M” (red) glows (on front
panel).
5.2.5
Ensure that the “PRESS TO SET “button shall be the push and simultaneously
set the specified
temperature by turning “TEMP
SET” and “FINE CONTROL” knobs (on digital temperature indicator panel of the instrument).
5.2.6
Ensure that the front door shall be open and keep the sample
inside the chamber (in silica/platinum crucible, as specified) using long
tongs.
5.2.7
Ensure that the door shall be closed.
5.2.8
Ensure that the regulator indicator –“HEATER” (yellow) on the the front panel of the instrument stops
glowing when the set temperature shall be attained.
5.2.9
Ensure that the “MAINS” shall be Toggle “OFF” after
completing the experiment.
5.2.10 Ensure that the mains shall
be witch “OFF”.
5.2.11 Ensure that the door shall
be open and the sample shall be taken out.
5.2.12 Ensure that the door shall
be closed.
5.2.13 Calibration Procedure
Calibration of Muffle
Furnace Digital shall
be done by the external party on an annual frequency
