SOP FOR PEST AND RODENT CONTROL IN ANIMAL HOUSE FACILITY | STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR PEST AND RODENT CONTROL IN ANIMAL HOUSE FACILITY

1.0 OBJECTIVE

1.1 To lay down a standard procedure to be followed for Pest and Rodent Control in Animal House Facility.

2.0 SCOPE

2.1 This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) shall be applicable for Pest and Rodent Control in Animal House Facility.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

3.1 Attendant- Animal House Facility

3.2 Housekeeping personnel / Designated staff

5.0 PROCEDURE



5.1 Pest control

5.1.1 Recommended pest control solutions (Baygon Spray) shall be used to spray every 15 days (if required) in respective areas for pest control.

5.2 Fly control

5.2.1 Optionally electrically operated fly destroyer/s shall be kept (if required) in the animal facility premises to control the insects and it shall be kept “ON” as and when required. 

5.3 Rodent Control

5.3.1 Rodent Glue pads / Bromadiolone cakes shall be placed in the storage room (feed and bedding material) and animal facility main doors if required / as and when required.

5.3.2 Designated / authorized staff / shall check for the presence of any rodent on the glue pad.

5.3.3 If any rodents are trapped, they shall be released in the open area which shall be far away from the animal facility. 

5.4 Insecticidal Chalk

5.4.1 The insecticidal chalk shall be used for controlling crawling insects if required / as and when required. Lines shall be drawn by the designated person using the chalk along the outer edges of the doors.

5.4.2 The above-mentioned activities shall be recorded in the currently running version format no. F……………..

5.5 Safety Precautions

5.5.1 Animals should be transferred to another area before doing the pest control procedure.

5.5.2 Gloves, Nose masks, and closed spray vessels are used during Pest and Rodent Control Treatment.

5.5.3 Care shall be taken to avoid spraying pest control chemicals on unwanted surfaces, material,s and equipment. 

5.5.4 The concerned area supervisor shall be informed before proceeding with the Pest control treatment in each area.

5.5.5 The Animal house in-charge shall ensure the treatment usage of chemicals, entry procedures as per the Approved Plan.

5.5.6 Naphthalene balls shall be dipped in each drain in one-month frequency.
