1.0 OBJECTIVE
1.1 To lay down a standard procedure to be followed for the operation of Digital Tele-Thermometer.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) shall be applicable for operation and calibration of Digital Tele-Thermometer in Animal House Facility.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 All Personnel involved in operation and calibration of Digital Tele-Thermometer.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Controls
5.1.1 ON/ OFF switch - This is used to switch ‘ON’ the instrument at the time of its use.
5.1.2 CAL-This control is used to calibrate the temperature if considered necessary.
5.2 Operating Procedure
5.1.3 Ensure that the instrument is clean and free from dust.
5.1.4 Insert pyrogen probes to the appropriate socket. The sensor end of the pyrogen probe shall be inserted in the rectum of the animal, whose temperature is to be measured.
5.1.5 Connect the instrument to the mains supply.
5.1.6 Switch “ON” the instrument.
5.1.7 Calibrate the instrument by Pressing “CAL” if required.
5.1.8 Move Selector switch to the appropriate channel for which temperature is to be measured.
5.1.9 The temperature shall be displayed directly in degree Celsius.
5.3 Calibration
5.1.10 The temperature calibration shall be done internally i.e. adjusted with the help of “CAL CONTROL” provided at the rear of the unit before every use or every month whichever is earlier.
5.1.11 External Calibration will be done by an authorized external agency once a year.
5.1.12 Records of calibration shall be entered in the respective logbook of the instrument.
Note: Any break in the pyrogen probe circuit will be indicated by an over-range display (-1). This indicates that either the probe has not been connected properly or that it has been damaged.
