1. Objective: To lay down the procedure for operation of Soxhlet Apparatus.
2. Responsibility: It is the responsibility of the Technical Assistant, Technical Manager, Quality Manager, and all those individuals who are working on the instrument.

Instrument
Details:
Make- ................................, Model- ...............................................

Procedure:
· Enter
in the log book (in and out time)
· Connect
the power supply.
· Switch
“ON” the main power supply and instrument mains.
· Assemble
the apparatus.
· Fill
the flask with solvent.
· Put
the thimble containing sample into the extraction tube.
· Attach
the extraction tube with a flask containing solvent.
· Attach the chilled condenser unit with the extraction tube and run the water.
· Adjust
the soxhlet apparatus hot plate temperature and put the phase of cycles.
· Heat
the flask containing solvent.
· The
solvent starts to evaporate and falls in the extraction tube after condensing.
· Continue
this process till all the material is extracted.
· Discontinue
the process
· Recover the solvent by using key solvent
recovery.
· Discontinue the process and clean the extraction tube and thimble.
5.
Precaution:
· Always
start the chiller 10-15 minutes before starting the operation.
· Fix
the condenser and lock that before starting operation.
· Wear
Complete PPE while operating the instruments (Lab coat, Safety goggles, Solvent
mask, Hair net, Safety gloves)
