1. Objective: To lay down the procedure for the operation of the Rotary Evaporator.
2. Responsibility: It is the responsibility of the Technical Assistant, Technical Manager, Quality Manager, and all those individuals who are working on the instrument.
3. Instrument Details:
Make-............................... Model- ...................................
4. Procedure:
· Enter in the log book
· Switch on the instrument from the main.
· Turn on the chiller using the power switch located at the back of the chiller. The condenser should fill with water, if not already full
· Set the condenser temperature. It should be below zero.
· Set the temperature of the water bath.
· Wait till condenser and water bath temp. are attained.
· Transfer your sample into the cleaned specified round bottom flask.
· Attach the round bottom flask to the condenser. If needed, use vacuum grease located next to the rotary evaporator to create a vacuum seal between the condenser and the round bottom flask. Be sure to use a Keck clamp to secure the round bottom flask to the condenser.
· Set the vacuum and speed as per sample requirement.
· Monitor the evaporation of the solvent.
· Stop rotation, release vacuum from the knob, or by switching off the instrument, Remove the flask and switch off the water bath and chiller.
5. Precaution:
· Always apply the vacuum grease before operation.
· Adjust the pressure of the flask accordingly to the nature solvent.
· Make sure the tubing is securely connected to the back of the chiller and the condenser.
