STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR BINOCULAR MICROSCOPE

1.0    PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to carry out the operation of the Binocular Microscope.

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure is applicable to the Binoculars Microscope used in the Laboratory.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

Chemists/analysts are responsible for following this procedure. The section In-charge/QA/QC/Quality Manager is responsible for implementing this procedure.

4.0 INSTRUMENTS DETAILS

5.0 PROCEDURE

5.1 Keep the microscope on a vibration-free platform.

5.2 Clean the surface of the microscope with a clean cotton cloth to remove the dust.

5.3 Clean eyepiece, magnification lenses, and condenser with cotton soaked in xylene.

5.4 Switch on the main switch of the microscope so that the bulb will glow.

5.5 Adjust the lower power objective by rotating the revolving nose piece in position.

5.6 Adjust the focus of light with the help of a mirror and condenser.

5.7 Now place the objective (high power or oil immersion whichever is required) in position by moving the revolving nose piece.

5.8 Place the slides on the stage, and lower the objective, while observing through the eyepiece, till the field appears clearly (If the oil immersion objective is in use, place one drop of oil on the slide before placing it on the stage and then lower the oil immersion objective just to touch the oil drop).

5.9 Make the field clear with the help of fine adjustment and then observe the slide.

5.10 Slide can be moved in a left, right, upper, and lower direction to observe the complete smear area with the help of a slide stage screw and coarse adjustment.

5.11 After completion of observation remove the slides, clean the objective lens, and condenser with cotton soaked in xylene. Lower the condenser and place the low power objective in position.
