1.0 OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this SOP is to lay down the procedure to sample and analyze the samples of water as per chemical specifications
for monitoring of the water system.
2.0 SCOPE
This procedure shall be
applicable to the sampling and analysis of samples from raw water, Purified water,
pretreated water, RO water, Soft water, and ETP/STP water.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Chemist QC shall be responsible for the preparation of this
SOP.
3.2 QC officer shall
be responsible
for the execution and checking of this SOP.
3.3 Manager QA shall be responsible for the checking and approval
of this SOP.
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY
Head QC
5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 SAMPLE QUANTITY:
5.1.2 1 x 1000ml for every
point of sampling for every type of water.
5.1.3 FREQUENCY: For sampling and testing frequency, Refer Annexure
I.
5.2 Sampling of water:
5.2.1 As per Annexure I, collect the required
number of appropriate sampling bottles in a tray.
5.2.2 Take the adequate number of labels to be affixed on the sample bottles after collection of samples. Go to the sampling location for sample collection.
5.2.3 Open the sampling valve and flush the water for 5 minutes.
5.2.4 Open the sampling bottle and collect the sample till it
overflows in such a manner, so as not to
contaminate the sample. Close the
sampling valve and sampling bottle. Label the sample with
the necessary relevant details.
5.2.5 Submit the water samples to Q.C. in charge of the allocation of the job.
5.3 Allocation of water samples
5.3.1 QC in charge shall allocate the sample for
analysis to the analyst.
5.3.2 QC in charge shall physically hand over the sample, analytical protocol, and current specification and method of analysis to the concerned analyst.
5.4
Analysis of water sample:
5.4.1 After receiving the sample for analysis, the analyst should check for the details on the label to
confirm the correctness of the
sample.
5.4.2 Carry out the analysis as per the specification and while carrying out the analysis; record all the observations in the protocols as per annexures II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII.
5.4.3 Check the results and compare the results
with the specification.
5.4.4 If the sample does not meet the chemical/physicochemical
specification, then intimate the production department and maintenance department
not to use the water and start the investigation.
