1.0 OBJECTIVE
1.1 To lay down a standard procedure to be followed for operating Surgical Sterilizer in Animal House Facility.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) shall be applicable for operating Surgical Sterilizer in Animal House Facility.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Operating Procedure
5.1.1 Surgical instruments must be dry and free from mineral deposits. Such substances may cause damage to the instruments or sterilizer. If not cleaned properly it may adversely affect the health of the Animals. Make sure the instruments are free from all residual matter, such as blood or organic tissue.
5.1.2 After cleaning rinse for 30 seconds and allow instruments to thoroughly dry.
5.1.3 Place cleaned & dried instruments in aluminum foil and wrap them properly.
5.1.4 Open the lid of the surgical sterilizer and clean the apparatus internally and externally.
5.1.5 Add water to the level so that it should not touch the sterilizer tray.
5.1.6 Keep the instrument in such a way that the instrument remains apart during sterilization.
5.1.7 Close the lid of the surgical sterilizer.
5.1.8 Plug the machine and switch on the mains.
5.1.9 Keep the instrument for the specified time in the surgical sterilizer apparatus.
5.1.10 After sterilization switch off the main switch.
5.1.11 Open the lid takes out the material.
5.1.12 Clean the surgical instrument immediately after use as per standard instructions for cleaning of surgical instruments.
Note: Do not open the lid in between the sterilization process.
Do not overload sterilizer trays. Overloading will cause inadequate sterilization & drying.

5.3 Maintenance
5.3.1 Clean the entire surgical sterilizer apparatus and dry it.
5.3.2 Keep the lid of the surgical sterilization apparatus closed.
