Quality System Procedure: (PTL/QSP/16) Procedure for Handling of Equipment in Testing Laboratories


1. Purpose: To define a system in the organization safe handling, transport, storage, use and planned maintenance of measuring equipment to ensure proper functioning and to prevent contamination or deterioration.

2. Scope: This procedure is applicable to all equipment are being used in the laboratory.

3. Responsibility: Technical Manager is responsible to implement this procedure.

4. Procedure:

4.1 Our laboratory is furnished with all items of sampling, measurement and test equipment required for the correct performance of the test.

4.2 Our equipment and software is capable of achieving the desired accuracy. All equipments are calibrated before being placed into service.

4.3 A list of authorized personnel is being documented to operate the equipment.

4.4 The equipment manual having instruction for use and maintenance of the equipment is available with laboratory personnel.

4.5 A list of equipment along with its item and software significant to the test to be performed is maintained.

4.6 A preventive maintenance plan of measuring equipment is being prepared to ensure is proper functioning.

4.7 In case if equipment is giving suspected result the same is being taken out of service, isolated and labeled.

4.8 Calibration status i.e. due on and done on is stated on the equipment to ensure its proper working.

4.9 Intermediated checks are also being carried out to maintain confidence in the calibration status.

4.10 Test items are safeguarded from the adjustments which would invalidate the test results.
